The family Kingdom resort has unveiled a ramp and step at its main conference hall building in Freetown. This is in line with making public buildings accessible to all manner of persons in Sierra Leone as enshrined in the 2011 Disability Act. It was a sombre occasion when members of the Disability People Organization took to stage at Family Kingdom resort in Freetown, singing campaign songs recently in their cause at the unveiling ceremony of a ramp and step in its main conference hall entrance.
The project, according to owner and General Manager of the Family Kingdom resort, Mr. Jaward, was the initiative of his grandson’s fiancé, who saw the need to make the building accessible to everybody, including differently able persons.
The low-key ceremony on Wednesday was an epoch-making event bringing to light one of the dictates of the 2011, Disability Act, which addresses the aspect of inclusion of all persons.
According to President of the Sierra Leone Union of Disability Issue SLUDI, Kabba Franklin Bangura, Family Kingdom resort stands out as the first business entity to have constructed a ramp and step for persons with disabilities to have unfettered access to the building.
He commended the entity for their continuing support towards the disability community, adding that Family Kingdom resort has contributed immensely to the Disability People’s Organization as he encouraged them to do more.
Mohamed Al- Makawi, Deputy General Manager of Family Kingdom appreciated the contributions of the Disability People’s Organization and assured of more development projects that would cater for persons with disabilities in future.
Speaker after speaker were elated for the recognition and called on other business entities across the country to emulate the good examples, which the Family Kingdom resort has started setting.
