(MFAIC Press Office, 13th March, 2018). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation has been informed about the spate of rumours going round
Freetown and other parts of the country that there are jobs awaiting interested Sierra
Leoneans wishing to seek jobs in the United Arab Emirates.
These rumours have led to a mass influx of Sierra Leonean nationals who are currently
stranded in Dubai after having been exploited in Freetown by fake agents otherwise
known as ‘419ners’ who ‘convincingly’ provide false offer letters with attractive
remuneration packages including accommodation. These organized crimes are done in
collaboration with other foreign nationals that are resident in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al
Khaimah and Shaejah of the UAE.
In view of the above, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wishes
to ADVICE all Sierra Leoneans seeking employment in the UAE NOT to accept any
employment offers and/ do business with these fake agents, as the UAE is currently
scaling down its job markets due to the reduction in subsidies and the introduction of
value Added Tax (VAT) to all good and services.
