Reflecting on the passing away of the first United Nations Secretary General who hailed from Sub-saharan Africa, His Excellency President Bio said: _*“Sierra Leone will never forget his personal commitment to our country when as United Nations Secretary General he recommended to the United Nations Security Council for the establishment of a robust United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) that helped our country not only with the disarmament and demobilization of around 45,000 ex-combatants but also created the confidence for the smooth implementation of the Lomé peace agreement. The world will always remember Kofi Annan as a great champion for the universal values of equality, multilateralism, tolerance, human dignity and his dedication to peace.”*_
