High Court Commences with 425 Cases

The High Court of Sierra Leone has effectively commenced the 2018/2019 Judicial Year with a Call Over of the September Criminal Session, just after the Chief Justice, Hon Mr. Justice Abdulai Hamid Charm had inspected a guard of honour by the Sierra Leone Police.

Four hundred and twenty-five (425) accused persons who had been served with indictments appeared before the Hon. Chief Justice and had their files assigned to Judges for full trials.

From the Call Over List, murder which carries death penalty by hanging on conviction recorded twenty-six (26) with multiple defendants, Robbery with Violence and Aggravation on conviction carries death penalty by firing squad recorded twelve (12) also with multiple defendants , Wounding with Intent attracts a maximum of Life Imprisonment recorded forty-seven (47) and Sexual penetration recorded forty-three (43) attracts a maximum of fifteen years on conviction.

The total for offenses that attract death penalty either by firing squad or hanging are thirty-eight (38) and life imprisonment is forty-seven (47) .
