Koinadugu bye-election to hold September 21


The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has declared Saturday, 21st September, 2019 as the date for the parliamentary by-election in Constituency 43, Koinadugu District, Northern province. According to the NEC, it has received a letter from the office of the Clerk of Parliament informing of the death of Hon. Momodu Eskimo Mansaray, former MP for the Constituency which prompted the vacancy.

Nominations of candidates for the parliamentary by-election, NEC said, shall take place at their Koinadugu District office on Main Makeni Road in Kabala from 31st of July to the 1st of August, 2019.

“The deadline for political parties to submit the list of their endorsed candidates for the bye-election as per Section 61 of the Public Elections Act 2012 is, 26th July, 2019,” NEC informed. NEC added that in accordance with statutory instrument No. 13 of 2012, the candidature fees for the parliamentary by-election is ten million Leones only (Le 10m) per candidates payable to the District Returning Officer.

NEC concluded that qualifications and disqualifications for membership of parliament are found in Section 75 and 76 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, Act No. 6 of 1991 and any other relevant legislation.
