CAS to Hear Senegal Appeal Over Disputed AFCON Final on October 8
The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear Senegal’s appeal against CAF’s decision to overturn its extra-time victory over Morocco in the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear the Senegalese Football Federation’s appeal over the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final on October 8 in Lausanne.
The federation is contesting a CAF decision that declared Senegal the loser by forfeit and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory.
Dispute follows final interruption
The final, played in Rabat, was interrupted after Morocco were awarded a penalty. Senegal’s players left the pitch for more than 15 minutes before returning to the match.
Senegal subsequently won 1-0 in extra time. CAF later overturned that result following a complaint from Morocco, declaring Senegal defeated by forfeit and awarding Morocco the 3-0 scoreline.
Hearing to take place behind closed doors
The CAS hearing will be held behind closed doors and conducted in French. A three-member panel chaired by Frenchman Gérald Simon will examine the case.
The eventual ruling will determine whether CAF’s decision remains in force or is overturned. No date has been specified for the CAS decision.
