Amisi Family Demands Answers Over Stalled Mukena Extradition
The family of Vally Amisi is seeking official answers over the delayed extradition of Benny Mukena, who was arrested in Brazzaville after Amisi was found dead in Kinshasa.
The family of Vally Amisi is demanding transparency over the stalled extradition of Benny Mukena, the main suspect in the death of the young entrepreneur in Kinshasa.
Amisi, who was based in South Africa, was found dead at a hotel in Kinshasa in April. Mukena was later arrested in Brazzaville, but his transfer to the Democratic Republic of Congo has not taken place.
Family seeks clarity on extradition
Julie Amisi, Vally Amisi’s sister, said Mukena was arrested in Congo-Brazzaville and that she saw him on August 3 at the General Police Station in Brazzaville.
“Benny Mukena, the alleged killer, was arrested in Congo-Brazzaville. Seeing him on August 3 in Brazzaville, at the General Police Station, was a small consolation for the family and for the entire Congolese people,” she said.
The family wants Mukena brought to the DRC to face justice and is calling for official communication about the steps being taken to secure his extradition. The reason for the delay has not been provided.
Lawyer questions prolonged delay
Jean-Claude Mulingenya, the lawyer representing Amisi’s family, said relatives were struggling to understand why the case had not advanced.
“We no longer understand. Why is the case stalled? Who is obstructing this case? Who benefits from the crime? Who has an interest in preventing the truth from coming out?” Mulingenya said.
Judicial authorities have said that several people have already been arrested in the DRC in connection with the case. The individuals and the exact number of arrests have not been identified.
Amisi’s family says the case is not only about securing justice for Vally Amisi. It also concerns reassuring members of the Congolese diaspora, particularly those considering investment in the country.
“Bring justice to Mr. Vally Amisi. The people have been abandoned. The people want answers about this case,” Julie Amisi said.
The case continues to generate strong emotions in Kinshasa while Mukena’s extradition remains at a standstill.
