Onga Takes World Food Day Outreach to Makeni, Magburaka and Kono
Premium Divine Trading Company Limited extended Onga’s 2026 World Food Day activities to Makeni, Magburaka and Kono through market tours, food education and live cooking demonstrations.
Premium Divine Trading Company Limited has taken Onga’s 2026 World Food Day consumer outreach to Makeni, Magburaka and Kono, extending the programme beyond Freetown.
The provincial activities ran from 26 to 28 October and combined the Onga Market Storm with live cooking demonstrations. The programme targeted market women and other consumers with food education, product demonstrations, sampling and entertainment.
Market engagement and food education
Activities included market tours, music, traditional drumming and dancing, alongside information on food safety, nutrition and informed food choices. Participants received product education, free Onga Shrimp seasoning samples, Onga-branded souvenirs and cooked food.
Philip Kanu, Assistant Marketing Lead at Premium Divine Trading Company Limited, said the provincial initiative was designed to carry the World Food Day message beyond Freetown and engage consumers in their communities.
According to Kanu, the outreach also aimed to promote safe food practices and awareness of nutrition and food security while helping consumers learn more about the company’s products.
Cooking demonstrations
The live demonstrations used Onga seasoning in preparing the meals. Kanu said the Chef and company staff tasted the food before it was shared with market women.
He described the demonstrations as a way of showing women how to use the seasoning and of communicating the company’s confidence in the quality and safety of its products. Kanu also said the provincial exercise was the company’s first live cooking initiative of this kind as part of its consumer engagement activities.
The company has referred to product quality, safety and local regulatory approval in discussing the suitability of its products for consumption. The supplied information does not identify the regulator or provide independent verification of those claims.
Provincial expansion
The Makeni, Magburaka and Kono programme followed the Onga Waka Fiesta, a three-day consumer engagement roadshow held in Freetown from 15 to 17 July 2026.
That roadshow visited Waterloo on 15 July, communities in the Western Area Rural District on 16 July and eastern Freetown on 17 July. It featured product education, sampling and giveaways.
Market women in the three provincial locations welcomed elements of the latest initiative, describing the demonstrations, food, samples and souvenirs as useful, enjoyable or informative.
Kanu said the company remains committed to consumer engagement through product education, practical demonstrations and community participation. No attendance figures, distribution totals or financial details were provided.
