First Lady Fatima Bio to Lead Campaign Against Child Sexual Abuse
On November 18, 2024, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone, will spearhead the national commemoration of the World Day for Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse.
This global event serves as a vital platform to raise awareness and promote dialogue on the need to safeguard children from sexual exploitation and abuse.
Dr. Bio, a passionate advocate for children’s rights, has been a leading voice in efforts to protect vulnerable children, especially young girls. Through her “Hands Off Our Girls” campaign, she has championed legal reforms and introduced initiatives aimed at supporting survivors and preventing abuse.
This year’s event, held in Freetown, will stress the importance of collaborative efforts to combat child sexual abuse. Dr. Bio’s keynote address is expected to highlight the role of families, educators, law enforcement, and policymakers in building a safer environment for children.
The program will feature educational workshops, discussions, and community-focused activities designed to empower participants with tools to identify, prevent, and report abuse. The event will also honor individuals and organizations making outstanding contributions to child protection in Sierra Leone.
Dr. Bio’s leadership in this critical initiative reflects her ongoing commitment to securing a brighter, safer future for the nation’s children.
