Alamein Africa Forum to Connect Leaders, Businesses and Investors
Egypt, Afreximbank, the African Union and AUDA-NEPAD will co-organise the inaugural Alamein Africa Forum, a planned gathering focused on investment, trade and continental economic cooperation.
The inaugural Alamein Africa Forum is scheduled to take place in Alamein, Egypt, from October 2 to 4, 2026, alongside the African Union’s mid-year summit.
The planned pan-African gathering is expected to bring together heads of state, official delegations, business leaders, financial institutions and policy decision-makers to discuss continental investment and economic priorities.
The event will be co-organised by the Government of Egypt, Afreximbank, the African Union and AUDA-NEPAD. It is intended to develop into a permanent African Business Forum held biennially in Egypt.
Bringing policy and investment together
Organisers say the forum will seek to bring political decision-makers and the private sector closer together by aligning policy and investment priorities, supporting implementation partnerships and strengthening financing pathways across Africa.
The forum was established in response to an African Union mandate calling for a permanent African Business Forum to convene every two years in Egypt. Organisers also hope to establish a Business Advisory Council focused on private-sector priorities and investment across the continent.
Expected participants include President Al Sisi of Egypt and the presidents of Algeria, Angola, Burundi, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Libya, Senegal, Somalia and South Africa.
Business and financial-sector figures expected to attend include Ralph Mupita of MTN, Idrissa Nassa of Coris Bank, Mohamed El Ketani of Attijariwafa Bank, Hichem Eloumi of Groupe Shakira, Wale Tinubu of Oando and Aliko Dangote.
Focus on African trade and investment
Dr. George Elombi, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, described the forum as a platform for promoting intra-African trade and investment. He said it would connect businesses and financial institutions with priority projects and investment opportunities.
Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Expatriates Abroad, said the forum reflected Egypt’s commitment to advancing continental economic cooperation.
At a joint press conference held on September 17, Abdelatty said: “The Alamein Africa Forum will serve as a pan-African platform bringing together the private sector, investment and financial institutions, and representatives of various productive and service sectors, to strengthen direct links between companies and markets and decision making at the highest level.”
The forum is also being positioned as part of efforts to give the private sector a more central role in the African Union’s Agenda 2063, described as the organisation’s 50-year strategic plan for transforming the continent.
