The awards cover a broad range of activity, including investment, enterprise development, public service, technology, media, philanthropy, environmental action, trade and community development. Diaspora leaders, returnees, individuals and organized groups are among those whose work may be recognized.
Recognition for investment and enterprise
One category focuses on the highest verifiable capital deployed into local, job-creating ventures in Sierra Leone. Another recognizes returnees who have built and sustained successful local enterprises within five years of returning to the country.
The awards also include recognition for individuals or groups advancing pro-diaspora, cross-border or pro-business reforms. Organized groups involved in collective community development, philanthropy or investment are covered under a separate area of recognition.
Food security and environmental action
Investments in farming, food processing and supply chains are included among the contributions eligible for recognition, particularly where they support national food security.
The Environmental & Green Economy Champion category highlights work in clean energy, waste management, environmentally responsible practices and climate action.
Public service, technology and media
Another category recognizes diaspora leaders and returnees serving in public service who demonstrate integrity and impact. Technology founders and digital leaders using technology to address local challenges are also included.
The Make Sierra Leone Famous Creator of the Year category is intended for creators, journalists and media figures who promote positive narratives about Sierra Leone to international audiences.
Further recognition is available for significant charitable contributions and impactful social development projects. The Diaspora / Returnee Trade & Export Excellence category covers leaders involved in international trade, imports and exports, as well as frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area and the African Growth and Opportunity Act.
A flagship honor will recognize a global leader whose work has brought extraordinary pride, prestige and visibility to Sierra Leone.
