Barrow Inaugurates 50-Kilometre Urban Roads Project in The Gambia

President Adama Barrow has inaugurated a 50-kilometre urban roads project in The Gambia, highlighting the reported progress of Pavi Fort The Gambia on a major section of the work in Brufut.

The inauguration took place on 5 September 2026. The project was funded by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is headquartered in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Pavi Fort’s Brufut project
Pavi Fort The Gambia, an associate of Sierra Leonean company Pavi Fort-Al Associates (SL) Limited, bid for and won Lot 2 of the project in 2022. The lot covers 27.8 kilometres in Brufut town, near Serrekunda.
Project Director Ing. Joseph Raymond Sandy reported that 97.5 per cent of the construction work had been completed. He said the remaining activities included the installation of street lights and road signs.
The project report described Pavi Fort The Gambia’s work on Lot 2 as almost successfully completed. The head of The Gambia’s National Roads Authority also praised the company for its performance in Brufut.
Community leaders and residents were reported to have thanked Pavi Fort for improvements that included roads, street lighting and drainage infrastructure.
Further road work reported
Based on the company’s performance in Brufut, Pavi Fort The Gambia was reportedly awarded a further 100 kilometres of roads in a rural area of The Gambia. The specific location of that additional work was not identified.
President Barrow was reported to have expressed confidence in Pavi Fort’s professionalism and its ability to undertake more construction work in The Gambia.
Pavi Fort-Al Associates (SL) Limited is described as an indigenous Sierra Leonean roads construction company. Its reported road construction activities extend across Guinea, Liberia, The Gambia and Nigeria, while Pavi Fort The Gambia operates as an associate of the company.
The company was also expected to sign another major contract in Nigeria during the week covered by the report. The signing was reported as expected and was not confirmed.
Sierra Leone officials attend ceremony
The inauguration was witnessed by Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to The Gambia, Madam Martha Kanagbo, and the Director General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority, Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu.
Representatives of The Gambia’s Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, the National Roads Authority, community leadership and the Brufut community also attended the ceremony.
