Carlos Queiroz Leaves Ghana Coaching Role After One-Month Return
Carlos Queiroz’s second spell as Ghana coach has ended after one month, with the Ghana Football Association agreeing to terminate his contract following disappointing qualifying results.
Carlos Queiroz has left his position as Ghana coach after the Ghana Football Association agreed to terminate his contract, bringing his second spell in charge to an end after one month.
The association said the decision was reached by mutual agreement and was considered to be in the best interests of the national team.
Qualifying defeats precede departure
Queiroz’s exit followed Ghana’s disappointing results in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. The Black Stars were beaten 2-0 by Ivory Coast and later lost 4-2 to Gambia.
The 73-year-old returned to lead Ghana on September 3. His latest tenure ended only a month later, marking his second departure from the role within a few months.
Queiroz first took charge of Ghana in April, replacing Otto Addo. He resigned after Ghana’s elimination from the World Cup, which followed a 1-0 defeat by Colombia.
Future of the national team
Queiroz said he had returned with the determination to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars. He also indicated that the conditions required to achieve that objective had not been fully established.
The Ghana Football Association had not announced a replacement at the time of the report.
