Focus on expansion
In her new role, Onafeko will lead Glovo Nigeria’s next phase of growth, including the company’s planned expansion across Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Ibadan. Glovo did not provide a specific timeline for the expansion.
“My experience across strategy, finance and growth has given me a strong understanding of our business and opportunities within the market,” Onafeko said. “I look forward to working with our teams, partners and wider ecosystem to build on what we have achieved and deliver sustainable growth in the years ahead.”
Onafeko joined Glovo in 2023 and has since held leadership positions including Head of Strategy & Finance and Head of Growth. Before joining the company, she spent eight years in consulting, including at Boston Consulting Group in London, where she advised executives and investors on investment decisions and growth strategy.
Akinola’s tenure
Akinola announced her departure from Glovo in a LinkedIn post. She joined the company in 2021 as Head of Q-commerce for Sub-Saharan Africa and later became General Manager of Glovo Nigeria in 2023.
During her time at the company, Akinola built Glovo’s marketplace business for groceries, health and retail, and launched and scaled dark stores across the region.
“Building this business into an $80 million operation and Glovo’s fastest-growing market has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” Akinola said in the post. “This chapter has deepened my conviction in the opportunity across Africa, and in the talent capable of turning that opportunity into extraordinary businesses.”
