Employers Federation Pledges Cooperation with Labour Ministry
The Sierra Leone Employers Federation has reaffirmed its readiness to work with the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security on labour and employment matters.
The Sierra Leone Employers Federation has pledged to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security following a courtesy visit to Minister Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq. in Freetown.
The meeting took place at the Minister’s office on 2 October 2026 and focused on collaboration involving employers, workers and the Government within Sierra Leone’s tripartite labour system.
The Commissioner of Labour called the meeting to order. Members of the Federation then introduced its executive and outlined its activities and role in representing employers across the country.
Federation outlines readiness to cooperate
Tamba Allieu Kokobay, Vice Chairman of the Sierra Leone Employers Federation, congratulated Koroma on his appointment and thanked him for meeting with the organisation.
Kokobay said the Federation had worked over the years to strengthen its visibility and capacity to represent employers across Sierra Leone. He also said SLEF works with the Sierra Leone Labour Congress and the Ministry under the country’s tripartite framework.
“We are here to introduce ourselves to you, for you to know that we are there and ready to work with you. You can call on us at any time,” Kokobay said.
He stressed that cooperation among employers, workers and the Government was important for addressing challenges in the labour and employment sector. According to Kokobay, the Federation has also established a fully functional secretariat and increased its participation in national and international labour engagements.
Minister focuses on Employment Act
Koroma welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the Federation’s visit and contribution to Sierra Leone’s labour sector.
The Minister said his priority was to strengthen cooperation with employers, workers and other stakeholders so that the country’s labour laws could be effectively implemented, with particular attention to the Employment Act.
“My intention, and I have made it very clear from day one, is to work together with you to see how we can implement the provisions of this Act,” Koroma said.
The engagement reaffirmed the importance of the relationship among the Government, employers and workers. SLEF said it was ready to work with the Ministry and support it on labour and employment matters, while the Minister expressed his intention to work with the Federation on implementing the Employment Act.
