President Julius Maada Bio has received Sierra Leonean Alhaji Amadu Juldeh Sowe following his election as president of Tabital Pulaaku International.
President Julius Maada Bio received Alhaji Amadu Juldeh Sowe and senior representatives of Tabital Pulaaku International at State House in Freetown on Monday, 5 October 2026.
Sowe, a Sierra Leonean, was formally presented to President Bio and the people of Sierra Leone after being elected to lead the international Fulah organisation. He was also referred to as the newly crowned Horeejo.
The delegation included Alhaji Sidie Dem, Dr Abubakar Gerei and Dr Helena Sahid, a senior member of Tabital Pulaaku International from Guinea-Bissau.
Calls for unity and cooperation
The meeting focused on peace, unity and cooperation among Fulahs in Sierra Leone and around the world. Sowe called for greater unity within the Fulah community and said he would dedicate his tenure to the Fulah community in Sierra Leone.
President Bio urged Sowe to use his new position to bring the wider Fulah community together and promote unity, peace and cooperation. He also called on Fulahs in Sierra Leone to support Sowe as he takes on his international responsibilities.
Welcoming Sowe, President Bio described him as peaceful, respectful and highly consultative. He said Sowe had made a meaningful contribution to the country.
“You have demonstrated for far too long that you are peaceful and that you have been contributing meaningfully to our country,” President Bio told him.
The President also referred to the longstanding bonds among Sierra Leoneans, saying, “We have lived together in our communities, attended schools together, and shared good memories.”
Recognition of Sierra Leonean leadership
President Bio described Sowe’s elevation to the international Fulah leadership as a source of pride for Sierra Leone. Sowe, in turn, described his election as a national achievement.
Dr Helena Sahid said Sowe’s election reflected the confidence, unity, peace and respect he enjoys among Fulahs across 34 countries. She also said the election of a Sierra Leonean to Tabital Pulaaku International’s highest leadership position during President Bio’s tenure was significant and demonstrated a supportive environment in Sierra Leone.
Sowe said representatives from 34 countries accompanied him. Global Fulah representatives expressed gratitude to President Bio, First Lady Fatima Bio, the Government and people of Sierra Leone for their support.
President Bio reaffirmed his Government’s support for the Fulah community and said the Sierra Leone People’s Party Government had remained supportive of the community.
