Qatar Sends 15 Buses and Security Equipment to Senegal Ahead of Dakar 2026
Fifteen buses donated by Qatar have arrived in Dakar alongside security equipment, ahead of Senegal’s hosting of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
Fifteen buses donated by Qatar have arrived in Dakar, along with a consignment of security equipment, as Senegal prepares to host the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
The contribution forms part of a Qatari initiative to assist countries organising major international sporting events. Qatar has said it wants to share its experience in delivering large-scale competitions with other nations.
Ibrahima Wade, General Coordinator of the Games’ organising committee, said the equipment would help strengthen Senegal’s ability to stage major events.
“Qatar is making a very significant contribution to strengthening Senegal’s capabilities to organize major events,” Wade said, adding that the donation would support mobility, improve safety and contribute to skills development.
Dakar Games to feature 25 sports
The Youth Olympics are scheduled to open on October 31, 2026, and will run for two weeks at venues across Dakar. The programme will feature 25 sports, with participants aged between 15 and 18.
More than 200 countries have sent at least one athlete to compete, according to the source report. The event is also described as the first Olympic Games to be held in Africa.
The buses and security equipment are being provided as Senegal completes preparations for the competition. The supplied information does not specify the quantity or types of security equipment included in the consignment.
Qatar’s major-event experience
Qatar hosted the 2022 World Cup and has also staged the Asian Cup and a Formula 1 Grand Prix. The country is preparing to host the Asian Games in 2030.
Its support for Dakar 2026 reflects an effort to apply that experience beyond its own borders and assist other nations hosting international sporting events.
