The phone went on sale in China on September 28 at a starting price of CNY 6,499, equivalent to about $969 based on the exchange rate cited in the launch coverage. Using an estimated rate of about ₦198 to the yuan, the starting price is roughly ₦1.29 million before shipping, customs and other import costs.
Honor has not announced release dates or local prices for Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa or Kenya. The company has said the device will reach additional markets, while regional details for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Southeast Asia and other regions are expected later.
Camera and performance features
The Magic9 Pro Max includes two 200MP cameras developed with ARRI, the German cinema-camera maker. Its ARRI CINEMA Mode supports video recording of up to 4K at 60 frames per second.
The phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. The chip is reported to use a 2nm manufacturing process and offer speeds of up to 5GHz. The device ships with MagicOS 11, based on Android 17.
Honor has fitted the handset with an 8,800mAh battery. It supports up to 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging, although compatible Honor accessories are required to reach the maximum charging speeds.
The phone has a 6.8-inch display with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz when the screen is still to 120Hz during scrolling. Honor claims peak brightness of 10,000 nits in limited bright areas under special conditions.
Design and accessories
The Pro Max uses an all-metal unibody frame and is available in Moss Green, Shadow Black and Glacier Silver. Other features include 3D face unlock, an ultrasonic fingerprint reader and directional microphones.
Honor also supports clip-on teleconverter lenses for the camera system. The G200 lens provides a 200mm view and is reported to weigh 88g, while the G500 offers a 500mm view. Availability of these accessories may vary by market.
A Master Photographer Package, priced at CNY 10,999, adds camera accessories to the phone. The full pricing breakdown for all four RAM and storage configurations was not included in the available launch information.
Import considerations for African buyers
The Magic9 series consists of the standard Magic9, the Magic9 Pro Max and the Magic9 Super Edition. The standard model is described as a smaller phone with two 200MP cameras, while the Super Edition focuses on battery capacity and active cooling. The standard Magic9 is reportedly CNY 1,500 cheaper than the Pro Max.
Potential buyers importing the China version should check its storage capacity, software and network compatibility, warranty terms, customs charges, shipping costs and access to repairs before placing an order. Imported units may have different software, network support and after-sales arrangements from models officially sold in other regions.
Honor has promised seven years of Android and security updates for its Magic flagship phones in European Union markets. It remains unclear whether that commitment will apply to China-imported units. Honor’s UK website has a Magic9 series page for news sign-ups, but it does not currently show a final price or delivery date.
