The Court of Arbitration for Sport is expected to issue a ruling within days on Senegal’s appeal against the decision to award the Africa Cup of Nations final to Morocco.
Senegal originally defeated Morocco 1–0 after extra time in the final in Rabat. The result was later overturned by CAF, which awarded Morocco a 3–0 victory and stripped Senegal of the title.
Dispute followed late penalty incident
The controversy developed after Morocco won a late penalty. Morocco’s Brahim Díaz attempted a Panenka but missed, while Senegal’s players briefly left the pitch in protest.
Referee Jean-Jacques Ndala then decided to restart the match, allowing Senegal to complete the game. Pape Gueye scored Senegal’s winning goal shortly after play resumed.
CAF subsequently changed the outcome and recorded a 3–0 victory for Morocco. Senegal has challenged that decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Verdict expected soon
The CAS ruling will determine whether Senegal’s original victory or CAF’s subsequent award to Morocco remains the recognised result of the disputed final.
The legal outcome was still pending at the time of publication. The source does not provide the grounds of Senegal’s appeal or the exact date on which the final decision will be delivered.
