Fatal Confrontation Over Woman Leaves One Dead in Kenema
A violent altercation between two men over a romantic interest led to a fatality, according to police reports.
The incident took place on Friday night in the New England area of Nyandeyama, Kenema city.
Police Operations Chief Mohamed Konneh confirmed that the deceased and his attacker, both of the Fula ethnic group, were rivals in a relationship with a woman who was not married to either of them.
Eyewitness James Jamil Fatorma shared that the young Fula woman, who lives alone with her child in Nyandeyama New England, had been involved with both men. Her husband had left the area some time ago in search of better opportunities.
"One of the boyfriends had been with the woman when the other arrived, leading to a confrontation," Fatorma recounted. The altercation escalated into a struggle, resulting in one man being fatally stabbed. The suspect is accused of moving the body from the scene afterward.
Both the suspect and the woman have been taken into police custody, and the woman's husband has been informed and is returning to Freetown.
The authorities are continuing their investigation and promise to provide more information as it becomes available.
