Labour Minister Meets Newspaper Editors to Discuss New Employment Laws
The Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, recently met with the Sierra Leone Guild of Newspaper Editors to discuss the enforcement of the new Employment Act 2023.
Minister Swaray emphasized the essential role journalists play in informing the public about labour laws and ensuring compliance, particularly regarding NASSIT contributions. "As you play your role, ensure that you are also compliant," he advised the media leaders.
He stressed the need for the media to adhere to these regulations, stating that “non-compliance would no longer be tolerated.” He urged the media to take their role seriously: “Let’s do this for our people.”
Director of Employment and Labour, Judah Bockarie, presented a detailed overview of the basic employment obligations under the new Act.
The meeting aimed to foster cooperation between the Ministry and the media to effectively communicate and enforce labour laws, ensuring a fair working environment throughout Sierra Leone.
