Peace Restored in Batawai Village as Chief Tandacy Resolves Conflict

Chief Briama T. Kallon, known as Chief Tandacy, has successfully mediated a longstanding dispute in Batawai Village, located in the Setia Kadeh area of Kpanga Chiefdom in Pujehun District, on October 26, 2024.

This resolution marks a significant turning point for the community, which had been troubled by internal divisions that hindered development for years.

The dispute centered on tensions between village youth and key community stakeholders, primarily due to frustrations over leadership decisions and an uneven distribution of benefits from local development projects.

The division became severe enough that village leaders called upon Chief Tandacy, known for his dedication to peace and unity in the region, to help resolve the matter.

Recognizing the urgency, Chief Tandacy convened an emergency meeting of the Setia Kadeh Development Committee, bringing both sides together to openly discuss their grievances.

During the discussions, Acting Town Chief Abdulai Kondowai expressed the elders' concerns, highlighting that the youth had frequently shown disrespect toward community leaders, leading to a breakdown in communication and discipline.

Youth Leader Lansana Kpaka then voiced the frustrations from the youth’s perspective, noting that while young people had actively participated in labor-intensive projects like the Rice Agro Industrial Cluster initiative, they felt excluded from the resulting benefits. This perceived unfairness led to growing dissatisfaction and a gradual withdrawal from community activities, further fueling divisions.

With his well-known wisdom and impartiality, Chief Tandacy listened carefully to both sides and proposed a solution that addressed the key grievances of all parties involved.

He emphasized the importance of mutual respect and collaboration for the community's growth, reminding everyone that progress can only be achieved through unity. His resolution was met with strong approval from both the youth and elders.

As a gesture of goodwill and to promote ongoing unity, Chief Tandacy committed to providing sports equipment, including footballs and shirts, to the youth and encouraged them to respect community leadership structures.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides celebrating the restored peace. This resolution has renewed hope for future development initiatives in Batawai Village, previously stalled by conflict.
