President Bio announces ambitious agricultural plans at roundtable event “FEED SALONE”

President Julius Maada Bio announced his vision to improve Sierra Leone's agricultural productivity and explore partnerships at the recent Feed Salone Roundtable event hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security on October 5, 2023. 

 

 

Presidential Biography ``In his speech, the President emphasized the Government's unwavering commitment to transforming agriculture into a thriving and sustainable sector that can foster economic growth and reduce food insecurity.'' The event included the Government; Those involved in industry and agriculture gathered and had discussions. Build strategies and foster collaboration. President Bio said: ``Agriculture is the pillar of our economy and my government wants to build a resilient economy from the ground up, with agriculture as the main driver of growth.'' That's why we... must protect its rich agricultural land. Blessed with abundant water resources and sunlight, the country aims for economic prosperity. Over the next five years, the FeedSalone program will accelerate investment in the agricultural sector and lay the foundations for sustainable prosperity, with the aim of increasing agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and promoting inclusive economic growth. That's what I'm aiming for. My government is working with key stakeholders, including the private sector, farmers, development partners, civil society organizations, NGOs, academia, research institutions, and donor organizations, to achieve the overarching vision of the Feed Salone Program: food security and sovereignty. We are seeking effective cooperation and partnership with relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, President Bio has highlighted his five goals for the Feed Salone Government. Increase in export income from cash crops. Create jobs and revitalize rural areas by leveraging agriculture as a new engine of growth, jobs and wealth creation. Reduce hunger and malnutrition. 

 

Create resilience to economic shocks. 

 

Finally, President Bio urges key stakeholders to rethink their approaches and adapt their efforts to achieve Sierra Leone's critical goal of food security through creative and unconventional initiatives. did.
