Sierra Leone Casts Vote Against Israeli Occupation of Palestinian Territories

Sierra Leone Casts Vote Against Israeli Occupation of Palestinian Territories

In a significant move at the United Nations, Sierra Leone joined 124 nations in voting against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. The resolution, deemed "historic" by Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour, urges Israel to end the occupation within 12 months.

The vote saw 124 countries in favor, 14 against, and 43 abstaining. Among the Mano River Union countries, three supported the resolution, while Liberia abstained and Malawi voted against it.

This decision emphasizes Sierra Leone’s active role in international diplomacy, especially since it assumed the presidency of the UN Security Council in August. During its tenure, the country has tackled key global issues, including the Israel-Palestinian conflict, Sudan’s crisis, and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Sierra Leone's vote reaffirms its commitment to human rights and peaceful conflict resolution through diplomatic efforts. The passage of the resolution marks a pivotal moment in the global discussion on Israel's occupation and reflects the ongoing efforts toward achieving peace in the region.
