United Team of Pujehun District (UN Team) Hosts Conference to Chart Sustainable Development Path

The United Team of Pujehun District (UN Team) recently convened its inaugural two-day Annual Work Plan Review Conference with the overarching objective of drafting a comprehensive 2024-2030 Development Plan under the theme 'Sustainable Transformation and Development for All'. Held at the Galliness Paradise Hotel in Bo, the conference attracted delegates from diverse sectors, reflecting a collective commitment to advancing sustainable development in the district.

The conference served as a pivotal platform for assessing the progress of ongoing initiatives, providing operational updates, and addressing critical challenges encountered during the formation of the UN Team. Moreover, it sought to finalize the Development Plans and Budget for the next six years, while concurrently fostering capacity building and coordination among members.

Alhaji Best Abu, a senior figure within the UN Team, underscored the intrinsic value of volunteerism in propelling the organization's agenda forward. He emphasized the conference's role in reinvigorating the spirit of volunteerism among members and rebranding the UN Team as a proactive agent of change. Notably, Abu highlighted pressing issues such as accessibility to education and healthcare, particularly maternal and infant mortality rates, as focal points for intervention within the district.

Echoing similar sentiments, Edwin L. Gibao articulated the urgent need to address healthcare disparities prevailing in Pujehun District. He advocated for concerted efforts to bridge existing gaps in the health sector and proposed measures to mitigate maternal and infant mortality rates. Gibao reaffirmed the UN Team's unwavering commitment to supporting the district, particularly in times of crises such as the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Mohamed B. Kallon, another esteemed member of the UN Team, underscored the conference's emphasis on engaging young people as catalysts for driving socio-economic progress in the district. He emphasized the imperative of strategic planning to effectively spearhead development initiatives, dispelling misconceptions surrounding the funding of the conference by clarifying that delegates financed the event through individual contributions.

Key outcomes of the conference included the formulation of comprehensive activity plans targeting various sectors including transportation, education, agriculture, and communication. The Agriculture Committee, represented by Nelson Moinama Kallon, outlined initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices, fostering collaboration with stakeholders, and providing training on modern farming techniques.

In summation, the conference served as a dynamic forum for stakeholders to strategize and collaborate on initiatives geared towards addressing pressing socio-economic challenges in Pujehun District. It underscored the UN Team's unwavering commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment, reflecting a collective resolve to effect positive change within the district.
