Tenth Woman’s Body Found in Soweto as Three Suspects Are Detained

South African police are investigating the discovery of an unidentified woman’s body in Soweto, amid a reported series of deaths involving women in the Johannesburg metropolitan area.

The woman, believed to be in her twenties, was found partially wrapped in a duvet in a dam in Soweto on Sunday afternoon. Her identity had not been established, and police launched an investigation into the circumstances of her death.

Cases remain unconnected

The discovery was quickly associated with an ongoing series of reported femicides in the area. Nine other dead women have been found east of Johannesburg since July, according to the source report.

However, police have not established a link between the cases. A serial-killer theory also remains unconfirmed.

Reports of the deaths have prompted a national outcry over the scale of killings involving women in South Africa. Some victims were reportedly found in similar circumstances, including partially wrapped in sheets or unclothed, while physical injuries possibly indicating a struggle with an attacker were also reported.

Three detained in Ntimba case

Police also announced the detention of one man and two women in connection with the death of Jabulile Ntimba.

Ntimba was found half naked and wrapped in a sheet in Dawn Park the previous week. The three suspects were due to appear in court on Monday morning. Their identities and the outcome of the court appearance were not stated.

The arrests concern Ntimba’s death and do not establish a connection to the other reported cases. Police have not announced a confirmed link between the deaths.
