CAS to Hear Senegal Appeal Over AFCON Final Forfeit Decision
The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear Senegal's appeal in Lausanne on October 8 over CAF's decision to declare Senegal the loser by forfeit in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear Senegal’s appeal against the Confederation of African Football’s decision concerning the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The hearing is scheduled for October 8 in Lausanne. Senegal is challenging CAF’s decision to declare the team the loser by forfeit and award Morocco a 3-0 victory.
Disputed final in Rabat
The final was interrupted in Rabat on January 18 after Morocco were awarded a penalty. Senegal’s players then left the pitch for more than 15 minutes before returning to the match.
Senegal went on to win 1-0 in extra time. CAF later overturned that result following a complaint from Morocco and recorded the match as a 3-0 victory for Morocco.
The Senegalese Football Federation is seeking to overturn the governing body’s decision through the CAS appeal.
Closed hearing
The case will be examined by a three-member CAS panel chaired by Frenchman Gérald Simon. Proceedings will be held behind closed doors and conducted in French.
The eventual CAS ruling will determine whether CAF’s decision remains in place or is overturned. No outcome has been provided ahead of the hearing.
