The Nigerian fintech is also launching a curated stocks feature that will present users with selected companies supported by analyst research. The companies will be assigned buy, sell or hold ratings.
Retail participation expands
The milestone comes as activity by local investors on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) continues to rise. Local stock investors traded equities worth ₦4.53 trillion ($3.42 billion) during the first eight months of 2026, compared with ₦2.33 trillion ($1.76 billion) in the same period a year earlier, according to figures cited by TechCabal.
The NGX All-Share Index had gained 56.93% by the end of August 2026.
Cowrywise said the average age of retail stock investors on its platform is 28, pointing to participation from a relatively young investor base. Yarmirama Ashama, the company’s Associate Vice President of Product, said younger Nigerians were showing greater interest in investing directly in local businesses.
“We have been observing a gradual shift in how younger Nigerians think about investing. There is increasing interest in participating directly in the growth of Nigerian businesses, but historically, accessing the stock market felt complicated for a first-time investor,” Ashama told TechCabal.
She said Cowrywise’s approach was intended to make stock investing easier to use. “Our view was that the opportunity wasn’t simply to give people access to stocks, but to make that access significantly simpler and more intuitive,” she said.
Activity linked to market events
Ashama said Cowrywise had observed increased activity around major corporate and market events. These included significant earnings announcements, dividend declarations, corporate actions, broader market movements and public offers.
The ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery public offer is valued at ₦2.15 trillion ($1.6 billion), and investors can subscribe with as little as ₦5,250 ($3.96), according to the report.
Cowrywise earns revenue through brokerage commissions on retail trades processed on the NGX.
Competition among digital platforms
Cowrywise’s progress comes as other digital investment platforms expand their presence in Nigerian equities. Bamboo, which launched access to NGX stocks in 2024, said it processed 542,582 NGX trades in April.
Bamboo also surpassed CardinalStone to become the NGX’s largest broker by weighted market share, according to TechCabal. The company previously focused on self-directed stock investing and later introduced a Managed Portfolio product for curated US stock investments, with a minimum investment of $100.
Cowrywise was founded in 2017 and initially focused on savings, mutual funds and managed investments before adding self-directed stock trading. The company has not provided a launch date for its new curated stocks feature.
