The company’s plans include a modern warehouse at Sumbuya in Songo, a larger logistics operation and investment in local repackaging and processing infrastructure. ROCKCEM expects the Songo facility to become operational in November 2026.
Songo facility to support provincial distribution
According to ROCKCEM, the Songo warehouse is intended to improve access to RC BRAND CEM II 42.5 R Cement for wholesalers, retailers, contractors, developers and individual builders outside Freetown.
The company says the location could reduce the distance, fuel use, transportation costs and travel time associated with moving cement from Freetown to customers in other parts of the country. It also expects the facility to help ease congestion linked to cement transportation.
ROCKCEM said some provincial customers may need to cross only the Masiaka Toll Gate when collecting cement from Songo, depending on their routes. The company has not provided figures for the potential savings in travel or transportation costs.
Production and delivery capacity
As part of the expansion, ROCKCEM has assembled approximately 50 vehicles to support direct deliveries and cement distribution.
The company is also investing in a cement grinding mill with a stated capacity of more than 60,000 packaged 50-kilogram bags per day. The expansion is focused on strengthening the production and distribution of RC BRAND CEM II 42.5 R Cement across Sierra Leone.
ROCKCEM describes the product as offering strength, consistency, durability and lasting performance for construction projects. Those descriptions represent the company’s positioning of the brand.
Investment scope
ROCKCEM said its planned investment rose to approximately US$60 million because of changes in the global economic environment, inflation, higher construction and equipment costs, and the expansion of its operations.
The company said the broader programme is expected to create opportunities in transportation, engineering, maintenance, warehousing, distribution and related services. These are projected areas of activity associated with the expansion and are not confirmed outcomes.
Cement is used in homes, roads, schools, hospitals, commercial buildings and other infrastructure projects in Sierra Leone. ROCKCEM said its investment is intended to support construction needs through improved product accessibility and timely delivery.
The company’s stated ambition is to build RC BRAND into one of Sierra Leone’s strongest and most competitive cement brands. Its message associated with the product is: “RC BRAND 42.5 R Cement — Build Stronger. Build to Last.”
