ROCKCEM (SL) Ltd is preparing to begin operations at a new cement warehouse in Sumbuya, Songo, in November 2026, as the company expands its processing, storage and distribution capacity across Sierra Leone.
The warehouse, located in the Western Rural District, is nearing completion. ROCKCEM says the facility will provide customers with an alternative collection point, reducing the need for some buyers outside Freetown to travel to the capital for cement supplies.
Expanded distribution network
The Songo facility forms part of a broader programme covering cement processing, transportation and warehousing. ROCKCEM has assembled a fleet of approximately 50 vehicles to move cement between processing facilities, warehouses, distributors and customers nationwide.
According to the company, the fleet is intended to strengthen coordination between production and distribution while helping reduce delivery delays. The planned warehouse may also lower transportation-related costs for some customers and transporters, although any savings will depend on the routes used and remain an expected benefit rather than a confirmed outcome.
ROCKCEM said customers could potentially use routes involving the Masiaka Toll Gate rather than travelling through additional toll gates towards Freetown.
Grinding mill capacity
The company is also developing a modern cement grinding mill with a projected processing and packaging capacity of more than 60,000 bags per day. Each bag is expected to weigh 50 kilograms.
The projected capacity has not been presented as an achieved operating output. ROCKCEM has not disclosed the mill’s location, current production figures or the total financial value of its expansion programme.
The development includes industrial machinery, cement-processing facilities, transportation equipment, storage infrastructure and other operational components. ROCKCEM says the plans have been adjusted in response to rising international equipment prices, inflation, construction expenses and additional infrastructure requirements.
Focus on provincial access
The expansion is centred on improving access to RC BRAND CEM II 42.5 R Cement, which ROCKCEM identifies as its flagship product. The company promotes the cement as suitable for residential, commercial and infrastructure development.
ROCKCEM says stronger processing and distribution capacity could support local cement processing and improve the availability of construction materials beyond Freetown. It also expects the programme could create opportunities for drivers, mechanics, engineers, warehouse workers, equipment operators and other technical personnel, while increasing activity for businesses linked to construction and transportation.
The company markets its product with the slogan: “RC BRAND 42.5 R Cement — Build Stronger. Build to Last.”
ROCKCEM’s head office is listed at 13B Bai Bureh Road, Texaco, Old Road, Freetown. Purchasing and distribution enquiries can be made through +232-72-111111.
