CAS Ruling on Senegal’s AFCON Appeal Expected by End of November
The Court of Arbitration for Sport says it expects to issue a ruling by the end of November on Senegal’s appeal against the decision to award Morocco the Africa Cup of Nations title.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport is expected to deliver its ruling by the end of November on Senegal’s appeal against the decision to award Morocco the Africa Cup of Nations title.
The Switzerland-based tribunal is reviewing Senegal’s challenge to a decision by a Confederation of African Football appeals panel, which overturned Senegal’s win in March and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory.
Dispute followed walk-off
The CAF appeals panel faulted Senegal for leaving the field in protest after a penalty was awarded to the hosts. The walk-off led to a 15-minute interruption in play.
The penalty was later missed by Brahim Diaz, but the appeals panel nevertheless changed the result in Morocco’s favour.
Senegal seeks restoration of title
Senegal’s government has said it will pursue all available avenues to regain the title. It has also accused CAF, the African football governing body, of corruption.
CAS has not provided an exact date for its decision. Its announcement places the ruling at the end of November, leaving the outcome of Senegal’s appeal pending.
