The QNET VCON Malaysia 2026 media webinar was held on Thursday, 22 October 2026, and hosted by Amin Kef Sesay, Managing Editor of The Calabash Newspaper. The discussion also reviewed a September visit by journalists from the two countries to QNET’s headquarters in Malaysia.
Distributor verification and enforcement
Cherif Sarr, QNET’s Regional General Manager for West and Central Africa, said the company had introduced the Business 2U accreditation process to strengthen accountability among independent distributors.
Under the process, distributors seeking to operate independent offices must undergo verification, meet regulatory requirements and obtain the necessary authorisation, according to Sarr.
Sarr said QNET terminated 141 independent distributor accounts for non-compliance between 2025 and October 2026. He said 26 of those accounts were allegedly linked to facilitating fraudulent cross-border movement.
He also said QNET had reported 158 cases to relevant authorities and assisted more than 3,000 people in returning to their countries or reuniting with their families. The figures and actions were presented as statements by QNET and were not independently verified in the source material.
Anti-scam campaign
Sarr encouraged members of the public to report suspicious offices and individuals claiming to represent QNET.
QNET said its QNET Against Scams campaign was launched in August 2024 to raise awareness of fraudulent schemes and provide channels for reporting suspected scams. The company said the campaign had been implemented in Ghana, Sierra Leone and Senegal, with plans to extend it to additional countries.
QNET also reaffirmed its intention to cooperate with law enforcement authorities, regulatory institutions and media organisations in addressing fraudulent activities carried out in its name.
Company explains business model
Marlene Keur, Head of Communications and Global Public Relations for QI Group, said QNET operates through a direct-selling model in which independent distributors promote and sell products.
According to Keur, commissions are based on product sales rather than recruitment. She said company policies prohibit misleading recruitment practices and other conduct that breaches its code of conduct.
Keur also pointed to QNET’s public compliance portal, which provides information on acceptable business practices and activities classified as serious violations.
Journalists’ Malaysia visit
Cecilia Sesay, a television presenter at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation, and Blamo Toe of The Liberian Investigator discussed the September 2026 visit to QNET’s Malaysian headquarters.
The visiting journalists examined company facilities, products and operational structures and engaged with members of management. Toe said the delegation also attended the opening of VCON Malaysia 2026 and a press conference involving QNET executives.
The company described journalists and media institutions as important partners in informing the public and exposing people who misuse legitimate business names. QNET said it had facilitated visits by journalists and social media influencers from several African countries to its Malaysian headquarters and VCON since 2022.
QNET said it would continue supporting efforts to identify and address fraudulent activities while promoting responsible business operations across West Africa.
