Moscow to Host Russia-Africa Summit and Gas Forum
Moscow will host the eighth Gas Exporting Countries Forum on October 27 before welcoming African leaders and representatives for the Russia-Africa Summit on October 28 and 29.
Moscow is preparing to host two high-level international meetings focused on relations with African countries and cooperation in the global energy sector.
The eighth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum is scheduled for October 27. It will bring together representatives of major gas-producing nations to examine developments in global energy markets and consider opportunities for closer cooperation.
Russia-Africa meeting
The Russian capital will then host the Russia-Africa Summit on October 28 and 29. African leaders and representatives are expected to take part in discussions aimed at strengthening ties with Russia and considering shared interests.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is due to attend the summit. Burundi President Évariste Ndayishimiye, who currently chairs the African Union, is also expected to participate. Putin and Ndayishimiye are expected to co-chair the meeting.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov has said that 48 African countries have confirmed their participation. The names of all participating countries and representatives have not been provided.
Focus on partnerships and energy
The summit is taking place as Moscow continues efforts to deepen its political and economic partnerships with African nations. Cooperation and shared interests are expected to feature prominently during the discussions.
The events also place energy cooperation at the centre of attention. While the Russia-Africa Summit will address broader relations, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum will focus specifically on developments affecting gas-producing nations and the wider energy market.
