Chief Minister Engages Abacha Street Traders, Emphasizes Key Role of Market Women in Sierra Leone's Economy

In a move to strengthen connections with the local business community, Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Sengeh, visited Sani Abacha Street today to meet with traders, market women, and shoppers.

Describing the visit as "productive," Dr. Sengeh highlighted the critical contribution of these traders to the country's informal economy. He shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the market women are central to Sierra Leone’s economic transformation.

“These women are the lifeblood of our informal economy, representing the hope and belief we have in advancing Sierra Leone,” he wrote, using the hashtag #WeWillDeliver.

Abacha Street is a key commercial area in Freetown, filled with small businesses, many run by women. During the visit, the Chief Minister addressed various challenges, including infrastructure, access to financing, and business expansion.

This engagement aligns with the government's broader efforts to support the informal economy, which employs a significant portion of the population. Dr. Sengeh's outreach is part of a continuing initiative to build trust with small business owners and directly address their concerns.

Further actions are expected to improve market conditions and empower female entrepreneurs, as the government pushes forward its economic transformation agenda.
