CHRDI Takes Part in High-Level Meeting on Tripartite Committee Recommendations

Abdul Fatoma, Executive Director of Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI), attended a significant multi-stakeholder meeting today, organized by the Office of the Chief Minister.

The meeting focused on implementing recommendations from the Tripartite Committee, with attendees including representatives from USAID, the European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as well as diplomatic missions from the USA, UK, Iceland, Germany, and Ireland. Political parties, government ministries, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, and international NGOs such as the National Democratic Institute (NDI), International IDEA, and the International Republican Institute (IRI) were also present.

Fatoma expressed optimism about the discussions, noting that they set a strong foundation for the electoral review process leading up to the 2028 general elections. “It was a productive meeting, laying the groundwork for crucial reforms to ensure a transparent and inclusive electoral process,” he said.

The Tripartite Committee has played a key role in addressing major national issues and fostering dialogue among stakeholders. The current priority is to effectively implement the committee’s recommendations, aligning with Sierra Leone’s democratic and human rights commitments.

This engagement marks a significant step in Sierra Leone’s electoral reform efforts, with national and international stakeholders working together to ensure future elections are fair and representative of the people’s will.
