"Kailahun Government Technical Institute Introduces Distance Teacher’s Education Program to Bolster Inclusive Education Policy"

The Kailahun Government Technical Institute (GTI) has introduced a Distance Teacher’s Education Program as part of its curriculum. The initiative, spearheaded by Registrar Sia M. Sandi, is a response to the government’s commitment to inclusive education. The program aims to provide quality teacher training to communities in the region.

Since its inception in 2019 by President Julius Maada Bio, GTI Kailahun has primarily focused on equipping students with technical skills in various fields, including plumbing, carpentry, solar technology, agriculture, and computer studies. The institute has achieved significant milestones, gaining accreditation from the National Council of Technical, Vocational, and other Academic Awards (NCTVA) and registering with the Tertiary Education Commission. Many graduates have successfully secured employment after completing their studies, indicating the program's effectiveness.

The decision to incorporate a Distance Teacher’s Education Program into its operations underscores the government's commitment to providing equitable access to education across the country. With two operational centers in Koindu and Kailahun town, GTI aims to serve geographically remote communities that are often overlooked by traditional teacher training institutions.

Registrar Sandi emphasized the institute's accessibility and affordability, making it an attractive option for aspiring teachers in the region. However, the institute faces challenges such as inadequate funding and negative societal perceptions towards technical training, which can deter enrollment. Registrar Sandi urged the government to provide necessary resources to ensure the college's continued success.

In conclusion, the introduction of the Distance Teacher’s Education Program at GTI Kailahun reflects the government's dedication to improving education in Sierra Leone and providing opportunities for aspiring teachers in underserved communities.
