"Kenema Police Division Spearheads Revival of Chiefdom Policing Partnership for Enhanced Community Safety"
The Kenema Police Division has taken a significant stride in fortifying community safety by reinvigorating the Chiefdom Policing Partnership Committee (CPPC) in Tunkai Chiefdom. This initiative reflects a concerted effort to establish a secure environment and foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the local community.
Facilitated by the joint initiatives of the Community Relations Department (CRD) and the Operations Department of the Kenema Division, the revival of CPPC in Tunkai Chiefdom signifies a commitment to proactive community policing. Chief Inspector of Police and Commanding Officer of Ngegwema Police Post, Abdulia Amara, welcomed the team, assuring all of their security. He attributed the decrease in crime to the continuous and collaborative support from the community, emphasizing the relative calmness within his area of responsibility.
Sub Inspector Brima James Musa, the Community Relations Officer for Kenema Division, elucidated the purpose of the meeting. He highlighted that CPPC had existed in Tunkai Chiefdom for several years but had ceased to function satisfactorily. Musa expressed dissatisfaction with this lapse and announced the team's mission to revive the committee. He urged stakeholders to identify dedicated, trustworthy, and physically capable youths to serve as Community Safety Volunteers.
Emphasizing the importance of an unbiased selection process, free from political, tribal, or other biases, Musa outlined the commitment to providing basic security training for the identified volunteers. These volunteers would subsequently serve as auxiliaries to the police, entrusted to the chiefdom authorities to enhance community safety.
Inspector Mohamed Corneh, the Operations Officer for Kenema Division, expressed support for the partnership. Commending the people of Tunkai for prioritizing security, he stressed the evolving nature of policing. Corneh asserted that crime-free communities could only be achieved through collaborative efforts between the police and the community. He cautioned against associating the reactivation of CPPC with pending paramount chieftaincy elections, emphasizing its focus on enhancing public safety through intelligence-driven operations.
Chief Mohamed Mansaray, the caretaker of the Chiefdom and Chiefdom Speaker, expressed gratitude for the police management in Kenema for their commendable initiative. Acknowledging the vastness of Tunkai Chiefdom and the limitations of police manpower, Mansaray urged chiefdom authorities to fully support the CPPC and Community Safety Volunteers for the collective interest of the Chiefdom and Sierra Leone. He pledged unwavering support, affirming Tunkai Chiefdom's commitment to promoting security and related issues.
This positive development was reported by the Media Unit of the Kenema Police Division, signaling a collaborative effort towards strengthening community safety and fostering a symbiotic relationship between law enforcement and the local populace.
