Tragic Well Cleaning Incident Claims Four Lives in Kono District
Four young men lost their lives while cleaning a community well in Bumpeh Town, Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono District, on Sunday evening.
The men were part of a community service effort to maintain the well, a vital resource for the area. Two of them were inside the well handling a pumping machine, while the other two monitored from above. Tragically, those inside reportedly suffocated due to heat and carbon emissions. The two others attempted a rescue but also succumbed to the toxic conditions.
Authorities from the Motema Division, led by CSP Augustine Kabia, responded to the scene, retrieving the bodies and transporting them to Koidu Government Hospital for examination. A full investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
