Anti-Corruption Commission Arrests Three Revenue Officials Over Alleged Le300 Billion Scandal

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and detained three officials of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) following allegations of large-scale financial misappropriation within the institution.

The officials, who work in the NRA’s ASYCUDA Department, are under investigation over claims that about Le300 billion in old leones—equivalent to Le300,000 in the redenominated currency—was misappropriated. The arrests are part of broader efforts by the ACC to uncover financial misconduct in key public institutions.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the suspects or detailed how the funds were allegedly diverted. The ACC confirmed that the individuals remain in custody while investigations continue, stressing that all procedures are being handled in line with the law.

In a related investigation, the Commission has also turned its attention to the Immigration Department. Officials are probing allegations that diplomatic and service passports may have been issued to individuals who were not legally entitled to receive them. The inquiry aims to establish whether regulations were violated and whether public officials abused their authority in the process.

The ACC has emphasized that all allegations remain under investigation and that those involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. Further updates, the Commission says, will be shared as the case develops.

The arrests come at a time of heightened public concern over transparency, accountability, and the management of public funds in Sierra Leone. Observers believe the outcome of these investigations could have far-reaching implications for internal controls within revenue collection and immigration services.
