Cybersecurity Centre Warns Sierra Leoneans That Sharing Someone’s Intimate Images Without Consent Is a Crime

The National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre has launched a nationwide campaign to remind Sierra Leoneans that sharing someone’s intimate images without their permission is a serious criminal offense.

As part of the country’s broader cybersecurity awareness efforts, the campaign highlights how dangerous and damaging non-consensual image sharing can be—especially for women who are often targeted. According to the Centre, no one should ever be shamed, threatened, or controlled using private images.

The campaign centers on three key principles: protect privacy, respect boundaries, and report abuse.

The Cybersecurity Centre is encouraging anyone who is being threatened with the release of their private images—or anyone whose images have already been shared without consent—to speak out. They assure the public that help is available, and that reporting these incidents is essential to stopping digital abuse.

The message is clear: protecting people’s dignity online is everyone’s responsibility, and violating someone’s privacy is not just harmful—it’s illegal.
