Mason Sentenced to 12 Months for Stealing Iron Rods in Freetown

 

A 33-year-old mason, Alie Kamara, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for stealing iron rods worth Le 12,045 from a local resident, Fatima Reider.

 

The ruling was delivered at Pademba Road Court No.1 by Magistrate Sahr Kekura under the Larceny Act of 1916. The theft occurred on February 8, 2024, at Reider’s home, opposite the U.S. Embassy in the Mountain Rural District. Kamara admitted to stealing 31 lengths of 1/2-inch iron rods and pleaded guilty in court without legal representation.

 

Prosecutor Sergeant 8975 Bangura I.S. emphasized the seriousness of the crime while noting Kamara’s clean record. The accused expressed remorse and pleaded for leniency, but the court sentenced him to a year in Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre. However, he was given the option to pay a Le 1,000 fine to avoid imprisonment.

 

The case has sparked discussions about rising theft in the community and the need for enhanced security measures.
