
13 New Mpox Cases in Sierra Leone as Total Infections Surpass 4,000
Thirteen more people in Sierra Leone have tested positive for Mpox, bringing the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 4,098, according to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
The virus continues to spread, especially in the densely populated Western Urban area of Freetown, which now accounts for the highest number of infections—2,393 in total. Western Rural follows with 821 reported cases.
As of now, there are 705 active Mpox cases across the country. Encouragingly, 78 people recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 3,368. The official death toll remains at 25.
The Ministry also shared a breakdown of the confirmed cases by gender:
2,148 males
1,950 females
Officials are urging the public to stay alert. Mpox is not the same as chickenpox, and anyone experiencing fever along with unexplained rashes should call the emergency line 117 immediately for support and medical guidance.
