Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) Addresses Concerns Surrounding 2024 WASSCE ChallengesThe Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has stepped forward

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has stepped forward to address circulating concerns regarding a video purportedly created by a Member of Parliament discussing various issues related to the upcoming West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

To provide clarity on the matter, the ministry has issued several points of clarification regarding the 2024 WASSCE:

1. A total of 146,179 candidates have successfully completed registration for both Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) and the Batch Registration System (BRS), rendering them eligible to sit for this year’s WASSCE.

2. Every district is adequately represented by eligible candidates set to undertake the forthcoming WASSCE.

3. School leaders are responsible for uploading necessary candidate information into the WAEC portals, and this data is not generated by WAEC itself.

4. The reopening of the WAEC portals for all schools nationwide occurs simultaneously and is not carried out on a district or regional basis.

5. Continuous Assessment Score (CASS) constitutes 30% of the total score for candidates undertaking the WASSCE and is a prerequisite as stipulated by the West African Examinations Council.

In addressing concerns about students who may have been omitted from the list of exam candidates, the Ministry has pledged to maintain ongoing communication with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) regarding the potential reopening of portals for Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) and the Batch Registration System (BRS) within the available timeframe as students prepare for the examinations.

This proactive step by the Ministry aims to ensure transparency and alleviate any uncertainties surrounding the WASSCE process for the benefit of students, educators, and stakeholders alike. It underscores the commitment of the Ministry to uphold the integrity and fairness of the examination process while providing necessary support to candidates as they pursue their academic endeavors.

As the nation gears up for the 2024 WASSCE, the Ministry remains dedicated to facilitating a conducive environment for students to excel and achieve their academic aspirations. Through collaborative efforts with WAEC and other stakeholders, the Ministry endeavors to navigate any challenges encountered, ensuring a smooth and successful examination experience for all involved.
