Over 1,000 Explosive Devices Seized at Gbalamuya Checkpoint

Security forces at the Gbalamuya Checkpoint, along with the National Revenue Authority’s Anti-smuggling Unit, intercepted and seized over 1,000 assorted explosive devices. These dangerous materials were handed over to Lieutenant-Colonel John Kainessie, the Commanding Officer of the 11th Infantry Battalion in Kambia, for secure custody.

The transfer of the explosives occurred at the Old Customs Building in Gbalamuya in the presence of key security officials, including Superintendent Murana Kamara, the Local Unit Commander, and Joshua Bockarie, the Kambia District Coordinator from the Office of National Security.

The explosives are now safely stored at the 11th Battalion Headquarters. Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the incident.

This significant seizure is part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities at the Gbalamuya Customs Border, a critical crossing point between Sierra Leone and Guinea. Local residents have urged authorities to enhance security at this busy border to prevent further smuggling attempts.
