Sierra Leone Parliament Approves $148.2 Million Road Project

The Sierra Leone Parliament has given the green light to a $148.2 million road construction project, covering 86 kilometers from Mabang Bridge to Moyamba Town and Gbagbatok. This marks a major step forward in the country’s infrastructure development.

The three-year project, set to begin in March 2025 and conclude by 2028, will be carried out by Citra Firm, a company from Burkina Faso. In addition to road construction, the plan includes building hotels, entertainment centers, and parks along the route to enhance travel convenience.

Operating under a Build & Transfer model, the government will oversee tolls and worker payments. If financial obligations are met, the road could become toll-free within two to three years.

Beyond improving transportation, the project is expected to boost trade, create alternative travel routes, and generate significant employment opportunities. Lawmakers from both major political parties have expressed strong support, emphasizing its potential to transform local economies and strengthen national infrastructure.
