Tragedy in Freetown as Building Collapse Claims Two Young Lives

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Freetown on Wednesday when an unfinished building collapsed in the Kissy area, killing two children and leaving another fighting for their life.

The structure, located at 87 Blackhall Road opposite Mende Church, suddenly gave way, crashing down on a spot where children were said to be playing. The unexpected collapse sent shockwaves through the community, with residents rushing to help before emergency teams arrived.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as neighbours and passersby worked frantically to pull victims from the rubble. Their efforts continued until fire service personnel, ambulance teams, and police officers reached the site and took over rescue operations.

Authorities quickly secured the area, launching search and recovery efforts while preventing further access to the dangerous structure. Structural engineers are expected to investigate the cause of the collapse, including whether proper building standards, permits, and safety regulations were followed.

At the time of the incident, officials had yet to release a formal statement, and the building’s developer has not publicly responded.

The tragedy has left the Kissy community in mourning, while also raising serious concerns about construction safety. Residents and local leaders are now calling for stricter enforcement of building regulations to prevent such devastating incidents from happening again.
