Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) Takes Firm Action Against Officers Involved in Drug Offenses
In a recent press release dated April 22, 2024, the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) addressed a troubling incident involving several of its officers. The release sheds light on the discovery of illicit substances in the possession of a Corrections Officer, 2CCO Musa Samura (2855), suspected to be marijuana. This discovery was made by the Gate Supervisor on duty at the main entrance of the Freetown Male Correctional Centre (Pademba Road) on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 06:45hrs.
Officer Samura's actions are deemed to be in violation of Section 22 (a) of the 2014 SLCS Act, which explicitly prohibits the unauthorized possession or distribution of substances among inmates. Consequently, Officer Samura has been dismissed from his position and handed over to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The SLCS reaffirms its unwavering commitment to maintaining safety and security measures within all Correctional Centres across the country. By swiftly addressing instances of misconduct and taking decisive action against offenders, the SLCS aims to uphold the integrity of its operations and ensure the welfare of both staff and inmates.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating drug-related activities. It underscores the importance of maintaining stringent protocols and implementing effective measures to prevent the infiltration of illicit substances within correctional facilities.
As the SLCS continues to prioritize accountability and transparency, it remains vigilant in its efforts to root out any form of misconduct or corruption within its ranks. Through collaborative efforts with relevant authorities, the SLCS is committed to fostering a culture of professionalism and integrity within the correctional system, thereby contributing to the overall safety and well-being of society.
