Sierra Leone Police Warn Traffic Officers Against Corruption
The Director of Traffic Management and Road Safety, Commissioner of Police Abdul Moijue, has issued a strong warning to traffic officers involved in corrupt practices, stating that offenders will face disciplinary action.
Speaking during a routine police press briefing on January 23, 2025, CP Moijue emphasized that traffic officers are deployed to enforce laws and manage traffic, not to extort money from drivers.
“We send them to do police work, not to collect money,” he stated firmly, urging the public to report corrupt officers to the Complaints, Discipline, and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID).
He encouraged citizens to support their complaints with evidence, such as videos or photographs, to ensure accountability and prompt action.
This warning comes amidst rising public concerns about extortion by some traffic officers. CP Moijue reassured the public of the police force's commitment to maintaining discipline and fostering trust between law enforcement and citizens.
