Family Accused of Stealing $7,000 from Sierra Leonean Footballer’s Home

A Freetown court has ordered the detention of three individuals accused of stealing $7,000 from the home of Sierra Leonean footballer Kai Kamara.

The accused—Abubakarr Turay, his wife Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter Kadiatu Turay—were charged with conspiracy to commit larceny and theft under the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on January 15, 2025, at Fadika Drive, Hill Station, Freetown. The trio allegedly conspired to steal the money, which amounts to 170,000 Leones.

During the court proceedings, Abubakarr Turay denied the charges, while his wife and daughter pleaded guilty. The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Aminatu Daboh, requested an adjournment, stating that a witness would be available at the next hearing.

The defendants had no legal representation, and no bail application was made on their behalf. As a result, Magistrate Sahr Kekura ordered their continued detention. The case has been adjourned to January 29, 2025, for further proceedings.
