"Sierra Leone Embassy Extends Compassionate Support to Inmates at Monrovia Central Prison, Enhancing Welfare and Solidarity"

In a heartwarming demonstration of compassion and solidarity, the Sierra Leone Embassy in Monrovia, Liberia, extended a helping hand to Sierra Leonean inmates at the Monrovia Central Prison on December 27, 2023. This thoughtful initiative involved the generous contribution of assorted food items and sanitary materials, with the overarching aim of improving the living conditions of those currently incarcerated.

 

Representatives from the Sierra Leone Embassy, including Deputy Ambassador Jonathan Saffa, Head of Chancery Sia A. Tejan, and Community Liaison Officer Mohamed A.S. Wai, spearheaded the distribution of these essential items. The act was not only a symbolic gesture but also underscored the Embassy's commitment to supporting and ensuring the welfare of Sierra Leonean citizens, regardless of their circumstances.

 

In the absence of President Julius Maada Bio and Ambassador Eddie S. Massally, the Deputy Ambassador conveyed warm greetings to the inmates and reassured them of continuous support from their home country. Notably, he highlighted ongoing efforts geared towards exploring the potential release of individuals convicted on minor offenses, emphasizing the embassy’s dedication to assisting those in need.

 

Head of Chancery Sia A. Tejan expressed gratitude to the administration of the Monrovia Central Prison for their care and collaboration in facilitating the distribution of these essential items. This acknowledgment underscored the collaborative spirit between the Embassy and the prison authorities in making a positive impact on the lives of the incarcerated individuals.

 

Deputy Superintendent of the Prison Administration, Mr. Joel J.G Juah, lauded the support extended to the 25 Sierra Leonean inmates and pledged to communicate the Embassy’s donation to the relevant authorities. He emphasized the significance of such contributions to the well-being of the incarcerated individuals and recognized the Embassy’s benevolence in this regard.

 

Speaking on behalf of his fellow prisoners, one of the inmates expressed gratitude for the Embassy’s generosity while appealing for intervention in their release. While acknowledging the importance of the provided provisions, he emphasized the longing for liberty above all.

 

This act of benevolence by the Sierra Leone Embassy serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the diplomatic mission to extend a helping hand to its citizens in need.
